Our Three Day trip to Garmisch, Bavaria and Austria

Two weeks ago Dennis and I got our international drivers licenses. Last Wednesday Dennis called and said "Let's go out of town for the long weekend. Did he really think I would say NO. So he found a German guest house on line and we mapped out what we wanted to do each day. We wanted Meagan and Matt to be able to take snowboarding lessons but to their dismay there just was not enough day light. I am going to go through our weekend through different posts. The first was our trip to the Dachau Concentration Camp. It was hard for all of us to go through this site. One of the things I learned and didn't know was they had several camps but only a few are talked about. I think we counted over 70 different camps! At this one they had 60 rows of housing buildings. The beds got smaller and smaller as more people were brought in till at one point it just became one long sheet of wood for them all to share. The more we went through the camp the more somber the kids got. We all shed tears at one point or another. At one point Matt asked "mom how can anyone think it was okay to be mean to and kill so many people?" Good question Matt. We then talked about how things like this still go on today. He got very quiet and then said "Mom war is such a bad, horrible thing, no one really wins." Oh what a wise child. These pictures are of the entrance gate. Everyone had to pass through this gate. It says something like hard work will set you free. There is a picture of the actual railroad tracks that lead up to the front of the camp. The picture of the map with all the dots-those are all camps!!!!! Then you will see a guard tower.
