Lake Visit

There is a lake just two blocks from the hotel we stayed at this summer. We pass by it every time we drive from our house to go to the base. Daniel, Meagan and Matthew spent a lot of time swimming in it all summer. Well it has been so cold that it has frozen over. One day I said "I wonder if it is thick enough so you could go out on it". I was NOT going to be the one to test it nor was I going to let one of the kids go out there. Matt of course volunteered to be the one. A few days after that we drove by and there were a ton of people out there ice skating, playing ice hockey and just walking around on it. The other day Jessica and I got brave and went on out on it. I will be honest it was kind of scary for me. You could see through the snow and see cracks in the ice and the ice is black so you can't see under it but you can see bubbles frozen in it. It kind of freaked me out a little. You can see in the pictures that they actually clear areas of snow so the kids can ice skate and play hockey. Where there is snow you can see tons of tracks from their skates.

I remember the Amish kids skating on the frozen ponds in Iowa and walking out on one with Donald. I was scared too, but there were people ice fishing and you could see how thick the ice was that they cut a hole in. It was at least a foot thick! One time in Michigan, we were driving up to my Grandma's, in APRIL, and there was a very big lake and it was still so frozen that trucks were driving on it! CRAZY!!
